Fine silver has a history of beauty and mystique stretching back into antiquity. Its moon-like luster and spiritual properties made silver a coveted metal by Egyptian Pharaohs, Chinese Emperors, and European Royalty. According to legend, silver is the healing metal that helps tune the energies of the body with the music of the spheres. It also is the protector metal whose properties can ward off and vanquish evil. In Christian and Judaic traditions silver has played an exalted role, with silver trumpets being sounded during ancient Hebrew ceremonies and silver chalices being used to deliver the sacraments.

For more than a millennium, it has been only professional artisans trained and equipped with fine silver making tools who could produce hand-made silver objects and fine jewellery. Today, that has changed. Bangkok residents and tourists are now offered the unique privilege of hand-crafting their very own pure silver jewellery—a unique and cherished heirloom destined to be passed down through generations.

Shannta has delivered the art of silver jewellery making into the hands of the public with Thailand’s first DIY Silver Jewellery Store. Located on the 3rd floor of the Bangkok Art & Culture Centre, SHANNTA provides the classroom, tools, and kiln, so that you can hand-make your own heirloom-quality silver jewelry in only 2 hours.

SHANNTA’s silver making classes run on a continuous daily basis and walk-ins are welcome. However, to be sure that workshop space is available for you, reservations are recommended. Currently, three levels of classes are offered ranging from 2,200 baht for a 2 hour class.
